Saying Goodbye To Jane The Virgin

jane the virgin season 5

CW’s Jane The Virgin did not start quite strong. It was weird until you realized that the show is supposed to be an exaggerated, almost satirical view of soap operas. But what got it to season five is the heart and excellent acting, especially by the lead Gina Rodriguez. If you skipped it, because it looked absurd, you should rethink your decision.

That being said, the show is almost over. And millions of fans, myself included, are in tears, because the show showed so many emotions over the years, did a magnificent job with some difficult life situations, from the death of Jane’s beloved husband Michael to Xo’s cancer story. It’s feels like that accidental insemination, which was the first plot twist that leads to many others, is not among the best storylines we saw.

While bringing Michael back from the dead looked so cheesy, it was essential to making a statement Jane’s real love is Raf, and we are yet to see if she will stay single or there will be a typical soap opera wedding, with lots of twists and turns. At this moment, the couple is more going through War of Roses type of thing, but fingers crossed that it will change in the upcoming episodes.

Rogelio is a fan favorite and a huge part of the Jane experience. His lines always over the top, we saw so many beautiful sides of him, which makes it impossible to feel anything but love for him. While the premise was a pregnant virgin, the show taught us more about family and unity, much more than an People  are still crying over GOT’s ending, but less vocal, always passionate fans of the once upon a time Virgin Jane, should also have a safe space to share their thoughts and mourn the end of an era.

We saw Petra’s growth, and it was epic. Unless she does something deviant in the upcoming episodes, she might be my favorite female character. Will there be a wedding for Petra and the other Jane? I certainly hope so.

For a show that started with ambitious Jane and her accidental insemination, it went from unbearable to one of those shows you are never ready to say goodbye. The Abuela aka Alba Villanueva got her happy ending already, in more ways than once. Xo and Rogelio are hashtag couple goals. More than that, they are parenthood goals, even though he named his second baby Baby. But that’s just Rogelio.

As for Jane, she is still annoying and quirky; always trying to do the right thing, sometimes failing, but her bravery and ambition is inspirational. Maybe just maybe, the perfect ending would be if she chose herself, but she already has it all.

Rafael’s family issues are disturbing, and sometimes a bit hard to follow. His growth is also incredible, but we always knew he’s a good guy.  After all the mess, he deserves some peace, and I am sure he will get to that place.

Jane fans, which scene made you weep?
