Disney announces Game of Thrones Creators will direct New Star Wars Movie

As Game of Thrones near the final episode of its season finale, it looks like the creators are looking forward to the next project already. Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed in a statement that GOT scripters, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, will direct the upcoming Star War movies after The Rise of Skywalker. The announcement ignites the rumor mill among Star Wars fans and critiques with several questions generated within a short frame.

After completing a whopping $71 billion merger with Fox, the two media giants made some adjustments to their schedule to better align with their new interests. Part of these adjustments includes a new release schedule from now through to 2027. The schedule includes a list of the upcoming blockbuster movies and their timeline.

New Star Wars producers: Perfect opportunity for Disney to get it right again?

Weiss and Benioff new Star War movie series will take a completely different approach from the last director’s trilogy. However, fans will have to wait until 2022 to see what the new series look like under the new producers. Iger confirmed that the three-year interval is enough to restrategize and prepare for the first series under the new writers-cum-producers.

But while some fans are excited about this new development, some others are skeptical and you can’t blame them. The final season of the GOT series saw a lot of divisive controversies that attracted a lot of backlashes. For many Disney fans, “The Last Jedi” and “Solo” ended controversially with critiques suggesting Star Wars is gradually losing direction.

New Star Wars movie: What’s in it for the fans?

Rumors are flying around that Weiss and Benioff’s post-Skywalker Star Wars films will focus on the old republic that goes as far back as hundred years before the Skywalker saga. If these rumors are anything to go by, we may just witness a trilogy that replicates some popular medieval culture from GOT.

Disney fans who are looking to see a GOT-styled Star Wars films will find the new development intriguing and exciting. But for people who are already dissatisfied with the final episodes of the last GOT season, the new trilogy may not appeal to them.
