Lady Diana is in the headlines yet again. Last night showed a documentary Princess Diana’s Wicked Stepmother, about Lady Di’s complicated relationship with Raine Legge. The shocking news came from Lady Diana’s butler, Paul Barrel.
Paul Burrell told HollywoodLife about the moment Diana knew her marriage was over. After she gave birth to Prince Harry, Prince Charles, her husband of 3 years, took just a quick look at their new son and after commenting on his red hair, said: “Now, I’ve done my duty. Now, I can go back to Camilla.” Yes, Camilla as in Camilla Parker Bowles, now married to Prince Charles.
Burrell also talked about Lady Diana as a mother. The princess made sure to prevent the nanny from treating Prince William- the heir- any differently than his younger brother Prince Harry.
She slapped that down. She really went to town with that and said, ‘you do not treat one of my children better than the other. You treat them the same. They’re both my boys. I love them equally.
Lady Diana was famous for her charity work and rebellious attitude. Paul Barrel thinks she would be very proud of her sons and the ways they raise their children. However, Diana never had it easy. She had difficult relationships with her family and her stepmom is just one of them. Apparently Diana nicknamed her Acid Raine. But that relationship changed and the wicked stepmother became one of Princess’ closest confidantes. The new/revisited documentary did a great job exploring the rivalry and reconciliation.
Lady Diana also had a difficult relationship with her mother Frances Shand Kydd. According to Paul Burrell, the mother called Princess “a whore” for dating Muslim men. Burrell explains:
That’s what you are. I’ve raised a whore, whoring around town with Muslim men. You should be ashamed of yourself. Diana was sobbing, saying ‘Mummy, please don’t say those words to me. Please don’t call me those names.’ She begged her. She kept begging her not to say it
The sad and short life of Lady Diana ended in 1997. But to this day, people cannot get enough of her. Documentary Princess Diana’s Wicked Stepmother is just another among hundreds. People want to know everything about the fallen Princess and one can only imagine how weird and painful this is for her sons.
