The Big Bang Theory: Saying Goodbye to the Biggest and Longest-running Sitcom on TV

the big bang theory

Whatever has a beginning sure does have an ending. After airing 279 episodes across 12 different seasons, The Big Bang Theory finally came to an end in grand style. When the last episode aired on Thursday night, it was a sort of mixed emotional feelings for the cast and the fans who followed the popular SitCom series from the beginning to the very end.

Ever since the first episode, the show continued to record huge success and won the heart of many viewers until the last episode of the twelfth season.

The series signed off with a two-part finale that stirred up mixed feelings and reactions among the fans. Big Bang aired its first show on CBS in 2007, showcasing the daily lifestyles of a group of nerdy geniuses and a female protagonist at the California Institute of Technology and their respective apartments.

After 276 fascinating episodes, it felt like the right time to call it a day

Reports had it that Jim Parsons, who acted the role of a pesky mega-genius- Sheldon Cooper, decided to quit and the show’s creators chose not to continue without him. While the news came as a shock to many viewers, it never looked like it was a difficult decision to make. Jim’s character is, without a doubt, the most loved out of all the show’s characters. This means replacing his character will never come easy and explains the reason why the show stopped in season 12.

John Galecki-who acted the character of Leonard the experimental physicist-also gave a similar clue during a press tour in 2018. John’s character played a significant role in bringing all the show’s characters together, thus contributing to the coherence of the storyline.

What’s at stake for the major characters?

Thanks to the Big Bang Theory, the cast members would have no problem undertaking any project that matches their disposition. For Jim Parsons and John Galecki, leaving the show affords them the opportunity to try out some other roles and go spend a good time with their families.

However, it does seem like Jim Parsons isn’t going to disappear from your TV screen as he continues the voiceover role for CBS’s Young Sheldon alongside many ongoing projects.
