Spotted: Gossip Girl is another show getting a revival. Or so we thought. According to Josh Schwartz, this is not a reboot, but “continuation of that world”, introducing all-new characters. Which means there will be no new Serena or Blair Waldorf. As if anyone would be able to top Leighton Meester’s Blair.
As for the original Gossip Girl cast, we will get to see them. Not all of them, but, again, the show’s creator said: ” We’ve reached out to all of them to let them know it was happening, and we would love for them to be involved if they want to be involved.” No, the new cast won’t be the kids of Chuck Bass and Blair or Serena and Dan. But those couples will still rule the Upper East Side, one can hope.
The juiciest part is that there will be no Gossip Girl. Here’s what Schwartz said and we agree 100%:
“We felt like a version that was just our cast grown up…it didn’t really feel like a group of adults who were being controlled by Gossip Girl would make a lot of sense, so it felt like there was something really interesting about this idea that we are all Gossip Girl now, in our own way, that we are all purveyors of our own social media surveillance state, and how that’s evolved, and how that has morphed and mutated and telling that story through a new generation of upper east side high school kids felt like the right time,” explained the O.C. creator. And no, we are still not going to forgive him Marissa Cooper.
So far the new HBO version sounds good, but we don’t think Blake Lively will make an appearance. She is pregnant now and kind of over the whole TV industry, though you never know. We do hope to see Penn Badgley, just to compare his Dan to his new-ish hit show You.
Ed Westwick is also doing a TV show back in the UK, but after his legal troubles, and everything Chuck Bass did…We are sort of over him. But if his presence will bring Leighton Meester back, we are in!
What we really want is more iconic fashion moments, memorable oneliners and drama. It may be a teen show, but many of us grew up with the characters, so reliving those days, even with a TV show sounds kind of cool. Is this something you will watch or you said your goodbyes to the OG GG cast? BTW, what about Nate? Why is it that we keep forgetting him and gorgeous Chace Crawford? That’s one secret we’ll never tell, XOXO!
