Cybersecurity And Celebrities

Googling your favorite celebrity is a dangerous pastime. Every year McAfee evaluates which celebrities produce the most results that could lead to malicious websites. Celebrities represent the biggest cybersecurity risks. These lists depend on where you live, so Googling for Love Island news is most harmful to UK based people. However, in the States, the situation is even more surprising.

The biggest cybersecurity breach can come from Alexis Bledel. Bledel is the most dangerous celebrity on the internet in 2019. No other celebrity was more likely to land users on websites that carry viruses or malware.

Behind Alexis Bledel is talk show host James Corden. Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner is on third place. Actress Anna Kendrick on the fourth, while movie star Lupita Nyong’o is place number five. Talk show star Jimmy Fallon, Jackie Chan, the rappers Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj, and finally Marvel actress Tessa Thompson are in the top 10 for US citizens.

In the UK, the most dangerous celebrities are Caroline Flack, Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams and James Corden. Nicki Minaj and Billie Eilish complete the top 5 cybersecurity risks for the Brits.

McAfee chief consumer security evangelist Gary Davis explained what makes these celebrities so dangerous Bledel and Turner landed on the list this year due to their roles in the shows The Handmaid’s Tale and Game of Thrones. Talk show hosts Corden and Fallon landed on the list due to viral video. Interest in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker likely put Nyong’o so high. Lil Wayne was on a summer tour with Blink-182, and this probably means that many searched for illegal downloads.

McAfee urged internet users to refrain from using illegal streaming sites. It also encourages parents to take advantage of parental control tools. None of this means you cannot search for Bledel news, but make sure to use secure websites. Cybersecurity is a topic that deserves more attention since the consequences can be brutal.
