If there is anything that is even more constant in the Tech world, it’s change. From established tech giants to smaller start-ups, there is always an acquisition made for whatever intent or purpose.
One major tech giant at the center of most acquisitions is Apple Inc. Within the past six months alone, Apple acquired more than twenty companies which somewhat makes it hard to keep up for other tech giants. While the company wraps up a deal to own a new startup almost every two weeks, you probably wouldn’t hear about them.
The company gives out vague details about the acquisitions mostly because most of them center on talent and intellectual property.
Acquiring early-stage startups is the key to sustaining innovations
According to an excerpt from a recent interview with CNBC, Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook explained that the acquisitions were motivated by the company’s aim to sustain a feasible platform for technological innovations and advancement.
While the company likes to keep most of its acquisition private, it is difficult to ignore or hide some purchases, especially when it involves a famous company and a huge amount of money.
For a company that is worth a whopping $3 billion, it is no surprise at all that Beats tops our list. Apple purchased Beats in a cash and stock deal in want remains its biggest acquisition even to this day. The company also owns Shazam- a UK instant music identification start-up- after paying $400 million in 2017.
In this post, we aim to list out all the firm’s major acquisitions in no particular order-including the unaccounted ones.
Other acquisitions within the last six months include:
Platoon-a London-based startup dedicated to finding talented musicians and helping them with the production and distribution of their music works.
Stamplay-An Italian startup dedicated to building API-based applications and interfaces
Laserlike- a California-based startup dedicated to providing users with relevant and high-quality content that aligns with your interest.
PullString — Based in San Francisco and specializes in making voice apps.
DataTiger — a UK-based startup that uses Artificial Intelligence to coordinate and improve digital marketing.
Silk Labs — a California-based startup that focuses on building on-device AI Structure for easy visual and audio recognition.
P. S. Most of these purchases have little or no impact on Apple’s $952 billion market capitalization and are majorly inconsequential.
