The Craft Remake Has Its Witches

The 90s nostalgia and lack of creativity are bringing us another remake: The Craft. It was one of those 90s movies we loved mostly because it was somewhat empowering and had great fashion moments. Insert 90s music, and you have a hit. Now, let’s see what the Craft remake has to offer.

The original cast

The original movie had a good cast: Neve Campbell, Rachel True, Robin Tunney, Skeet Ulrich,… According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lovie Simone, Zoey Luna, and Gideon Adlon have signed on the play the three teens/witches. They get in over their heads when they invite a new girl (Cailee Spaeny) into their circle. While the details are still a secret, it’s clear that the Craft remake is focused on diversity.

The new Craft is written, directed, and produced by Zoe Lister-Jones. The filming won’t start until next year, so there’s not much more to add. The Craft remake doesn’t sound like a bad idea for one simple reason: the movie was never that iconic.

Now, it’s not like 90s nostalgia is the only thing in Hollywood these days. There’s also talk about The Princess Bride Remake. The 80s and 90s nostalgia won’t last forever. So, it’s not just about the legacy that a film or a tv show leave. It’s about the need to see something new, to enjoy creativity.

The 90s movies had something that cannot be faked because it no longer exists. The world was a safer, more hopeful place. Now, we are more cynical, less optimistic about everything, so we watch those old movies to feel that naive again. Wouldn’t you agree?
