When was the last time you saw any red carpet event and went, “Wow, I love all these?” The bar for fashion hits are low, and while gorgeous, ladies in Cannes aren’t doing anything to make it higher. Quite contrary.
There’s no doubt that Alessandra Ambrosio is one of the most successful models in the world, although her risqué fashion choices are just getting in the way of her natural beauty. Red is her color, but Julien Macdonald barely-there dress is merely tacky. And the night before she wore the same dress, only from Ralph & Russo and in white.
Some feathers were involved, but it didn’t make it anymore glamourous. For a woman that has excellent street style, maybe she should fire the stylist and pick the red carpet outfits herself.
The biggest disappointment personally came from Eva Longoria. She chose pretty much the same dress as the supermodel. The slit is too high, and it looks a bit like a one-piece swimsuit with some extra fabric.
Ironically, the actress and producer wore all beige outfit for a day out in Cannes and looked like a style goddess.
Amber Heard either gets among the best dressed, or she misses the whole point. While her dress was missing some fabric, the most distracting part was the belt. It was like she tried to add some Californian casual chic on an evening dress. And again, those slits…
Julianne Moore looked flawless, so it was not all that bad. Tilda Swinton and Chloe Sevigny were authentic, loyal to their quirky styles, so they didn’t disappoint either. But we before we check out, let’s see two similar disasters in the form of tutus gone wild.
Fashion blogger Farhana Bodi and Araya Hargate chose some very interesting dresses, similar in style and even in color. I say interesting because that word is very tricky: it is often used as a flattering adjective, but this time it is a better way of saying, “Who made that and why?”. The dresses looked massive and overwhelming, so these ladies should check out how to be princessy and youthful: Selena Gomez knows, and so does Elle Fanning.
We’ll continue watching for hits and misses, so see you in a few days.
